Due to prostate problems, I started taking alfuzosin, one 10mg tablet a day. I’ve been taking it for about a week and haven’t noticed any side effects. I haven’t dived during this time. I would like to know if there are any contraindications to taking this medication for technical diving (to a depth of 100m).

ANSWER FROM DAN EXPERTS

[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column el_class=”page-text”][vc_column_text]Be aware of the side effects of taking alfuzosin. Antihypertensive effects such as dizziness and postural hypotension are known to occur. These same undesired effects in water are counteracted by the centralization of the blood circulation due to the disappearance of the gravitational effect, but it is important to warn you of this possibility in order to prevent pre- and post-dive injuries and to minimize diagnostic confusion with DCS in the event of symptoms at the end of the dive. I would therefore advise you to resume diving very gradually to check for any adverse effects in the water, initially at very shallow depths, staying within recreational limits.
